Wow, absolutely wonderful photo! I've never managed to get so close to a heron, let alone get a decent shot. It indeedis a Great blue heron, though I wonder; wouldn't it be more likely for the stuff on his/her beak to be little fluffs of feathers? :) Anywho, awesome shot! :D

I suppose it could be fluffs of feathers :D but I recall thinking that it looked very much like ice (plus, it was -10 degrees C that day, and the water you see here were the only part of the lake that wasn't completely frozen)
